School Newsletter No. 33

Dear Parents

Project Kenya
I am delighted that this project has had such an amazing outcome!  Our special assembly of last week, presented the final sum of £6,000 to Lady Baker of School Aid, who was so impressed with our children and school.  She has promised to keep in touch with us with all the up to date details of the progress of the building of the water well, along with Mr Desborough who is currently trying to organise the supervision of the building in July so that The Precious Twins Academy will have the benefit of fresh water a lot earlier.  I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved – please keep in touch via our website, for the latest progress.

Golf Day
Last Friday a number of golf enthusiasts had a wonderful day that was organised by Mr Furmston.  With glorious weather and a brilliant day of golf at Oaklands Golf Club everyone had a fantastic time, so a huge thank you to Mr Furmston for all his hard work on behalf of the PTA.  I have yet to confirm the amount raised but watch this space next week for further details.

Book Fair
Many thanks to all those who supported the Book Fair and purchased books.  We sold over £800 worth and consequently have earned £440 of books in commission.

Gerrards Cross Fun Run
Good luck to all our staff and children who are taking part in the Gerrards Cross Fun Run on Sunday 18th May.

Multi-Activities Afternoon
Our end of SATs week Multi Activity afternoon will take place on Friday 16th May starting at 1.15 pm.  As everyone has been so generous regarding our Project Kenya Appeal, we have decided not to make this a sponsored event this year, yet should you still wish to contribute a donation, please send it to the office in an envelope marked ‘Multi Activities Afternoon’.  Thank you – I am sure that the children will have a most enjoyable afternoon, after a very busy, hard working week.

Sports Kits - Urgent
Please could parents of children who take part in sporting representative matches please check that pupils have returned all kits.  Various items need to be returned so that we can ensure all kits are complete.

Belgium Football Tour
A reminder for pupils going on the Belgium Football Tour that there is a pre-tour training session at Mill Meadow on Tuesday, 20th May from 5 pm – 6 pm.  Please could all passports and European Health Cards be given to the school office as soon as possible.

Team Photographs
The school photographer is coming to school next Wednesday 21st May to take the team photographs for the year.  Please be advised that your child will need their full kit for this day.

Walk to School Week
Our healthy school initiatives lead by the Health and Well-Being team have a number of exciting developments which we are sure will encourage everyone still further to think about trying to lead a healthy lifestyle!  Next week starting on Monday 19th May, we have a Healthy Walk to school week, with our Junior Road Safety Officers leading the way.  Healthy lunches along with walking and taking more exercise will be the focus of the week, with fruit for all the children to try on Wednesday 21st May, kindly provided by Budgens.  Please see the letter being sent home today.

Safe in the Sun
As the weather definitely seems to have turned a lot warmer recently, please can I remind all parents that your child should have sun screen applied at the start of the day, a hat and a bottle of water to keep hydrated, during the summer months.  This will help to ensure that they are safe in the sun during break times.

International Day
As you are aware, we are currently aiming to become an International School by the end of the Summer Term.  We are therefore planning to have an International Day on Wednesday 4th June, with a wide variety of global activities organised, and as part of this we would like to make this a mufti day to support the Summer Fete, by requesting a £1 for the wearing of ‘mufti’.  However, to fit this in with our International theme, we would like to request that the children wear a specific colour, which will depend on their year group and class.  It is hoped that we will be able to make ‘human flags’ from around the world as a part of this day – so please look out for more details next week, for specific colours!  Thank you for your support – we are sure that this will be a really fun day!

Summer Fete – Saturday, 7th June 10.30 am – 1.30 pm
In addition to the PTA letter sent out last week, the PTA would appreciate any donations of teddies/soft toys for the teddy tombola and also for any full or empty pots of Pringles.

Wedding Bells!
I am sure that you will be delighted to know that Miss Breese will be getting married over the half term holiday and will be returning to school as Mrs Mincham – we wish them both every happiness.

Yours sincerely
